Index.dat Suite
Settings and Options - General

The following settings are available on the General tab.

General
  1. Mark items in red that may not be safe to delete

By default this setting is enabled, and allows Index.dat Suite to automatically mark and exclude items that have been detected but are known to cause problems when deleted.

    Items with the following in their paths, are automatically marked during the scan;

    PPSRIN~1 (PPSRIndex.dat - Pest Patrol data file)
HELPCTR (index.dat -Microsoft Windows Help Center)

At present, we are unsure as to why deleting the HELPCTR index.dat file would cause problems. However, we have checked it's contents, and confirmed, it is not the same kind of index.dat file as those used by Internet Explorer or Windows.

    Reccomendation: Leave checked

  2. Show warning prompt before viewing file contents

This option allows you to enable or disable the prompt that is shown prior to viewing the contents of an index.dat file.

If you are unlikely to forget that it takes time to scan these file's, you may feel free to disable it.

    Reccomendation: User preference

  3. Automatically find index.dat files when loading Index.dat Suite

Enabling this option causes Index.dat Suite to auto-run the scan on your system, whilst loading the program. Whilst this can save you running the scan manually (by clicking the Find button), it may slow down the loading of the program.

    Reccomendation: User preference

  4. Always use external viewer when viewing index.dat file contents

When enabled, Index.dat Suite will use the external viewer you have set in the Files options, instead of the internal viewer.

    Reccomendation: User preference

  5. Always delete last generated batch file when loading Index.dat Suite

When enabled, Index.dat Suite will delete the last batch file you generated (if present), the next time you run the program.

    Reccomendation: User preference

  6. Always verify batch file contents after file generation

When enabled, Index.dat Suite will perform a scan on the generated batch file, to check for invalid or potentially dangerous commands (e.g. deltree /y *.*)

Reccomendation: Should only be disabled if user is experiencing persistent IDSE0500 errors
Logs

  1. Clear Index.dat Suite log file when exiting

When enabled (ticked), this setting causes Index.dat Suite to delete the Index.dat Suite log file (default: applog.log) when closing the program.

The choice of enabling/disabling this setting is entirely your own. However, this file is useful when it comes to troubleshooting problems.
